LAST week’s late entries in the roadrunners pairs at Wanderers Bowling Club were Gary Moffatt and Lilah Nel, who turned out winners of that event with a big score of 4+34.
This week’s Lyn Wild’s open pairs winners were no other than the very same Bluff visitors with another huge score of 4+31.
Are we seeing something of a trend here? In distant second place were Errol Pienaar and Bill Hewer on 4+19, with session prizes going to George Harris and Ken Thomas (2+16 – the first) and Sharon De Kok and Colin Howes (2+15 – the second). Sportsman’s prize on 0-37 went to Greg and Marge McGuinness. Board draw winners were Bob Hayward and Allen Ritchie. Bob and partner Eric Smit also scored an eight during their first session encounter. Lucky with the meat raffles was Eric Redman, who won both the gammon and the roast pork. These, together with last Friday’s pork win, made it three chunks of meat for the Redman family this week.
Club competitions played during the week had the reported results:
In the women's points singles, Val McCaffrey narrowly squeaked in against Cynthia Addinall 101-99; Sonja Koch was ahead 87-83 against Mary Rust when Mary had to concede the game due to illness; Joan Bruce beat Gerrie Jackson 100-70 and Jackie Freeman won a close encounter 100-96 against Jo-Anne Jordaan. Bill Addinall reports that he and wife/partner Cynthia beat Robin Grobler and Barbara Neill 21-15 in the nominated mixed pairs, while Lofty Cawthorne and Gladys Myburgh beat Eric Smit and Trish Overington 30-18 in the same event.
In the men’s handicap singles, Steve Van Rooyen put a stop to Henry Hamilton’s run with a 21-12 victory; Errol Pienaar had a lofty win over Lofty Cawthorne to the tune of 21-5, and Arnie Harper came from a 17-4 deficit to overtake Eric Redman at the post by scoring a three on the deciding end to win by a single shot.
Next Sunday morning, 1 September is the playing of the seventh round of the men’s interclub league. Hopefully, teams will be selected and posted in good time and players are asked to tick their names to indicate availability. The weekend after that sees the start of the men’s and women’s PNB pairs. Wanderers has one women's team playing at Westville Country Club and 11 men’s teams playing at various venues. Ensure your own starting round time as some matches start on Saturday, 7 September while others start on Sunday, 8 September.
Various winners of meat packs at last Friday’s snowball draw date were lamb pack, Ronnie Hook; chicken packs, Mike Enslin; pork ribs, Denis Hearnshaw; rump steak, Ian Demmer; pork roast, Carole Lauderdale. The big winner, scooping the R1,100 snowball was Buks Swanepoel.
On Friday from 6pm until 10.30pm guitarist, singer Robbie Dalton will be entertaining in Vic's Bar. Get there early to secure your seat.
