THE monthly casual any pairs was played at Woodlands Bowling Club on Wednesday, 2 October.
First past the post were Jumbo Nel and Keith Wild.
Grego and Marge Maguiness did enough to win the first session while Bill Hewer and Daphne Else ran on strongly to claim the second session.
The 60/40 board lion's share went to Jumbo Nel with Ken Thomas picking up the scraps. The drawn consolation chocolates produced something sweet for skips George Harris and Claude Newman, along with leads Cora van der Westhuizen and Gerie Jackson. On Thursday, 3 October, 12 teams contested the mufti monthly breakfast fours with the superior bowlers of the day being Paddy O Brien, Alan Bird, Buck Boetteger and George Harris on 4+8. Ken Koch, Bob Hayward, Johan Nel and Joe McNamara embarrassed their opposition to win the first session on 2+17, with the combination of Dudley Dorrofield, Tony Hoggins, Dave Rowe and Brian Osman doing enough to win the second session on 2+9.
The future butcher shop owner Robbie Carr once again went home with the raffled roast.
Dudley Dorrofield claimed the 40 on the first 60/40 board, with Ellen Loots winning the 20 and then claiming the entire second board draw. Collin Howes skip, Linda Hewer third, Harry Meyer second and Dave Mathews lead, drew the chocolates.
A reminder that the tabs are always in for Wyn and Peter Brammage will take place at 1.30pm on Saturday, 12 October.
Tommy Simpkins was not at the club on Friday night to increase the snowball pool.
There was no lotto or Saturday swiddle this week. It will resume this weekend. Arlene Leuchars won the national lotto draw which will sweeten her return from Scotland after spending their summer months running her bed and breakfast on the Isle of Harris. Welcome back father–in-law Dirk Venter surreptiously reported that Chubbydale Greg Berry has not been behaving himself lately. A camp out is planned for 18 October kicking off with breakfast under the trees on Saturday morning. Any donations, large or small, for the Saturday swiddle will be much appreciated.
