Rain drowns out weekend cricket fixtures
The second eleven engage with Pinetown 2 in a 40 over Challenge reserve game commencing at 1pm at Lahee Park.
ALL lower league cricket matches were cancelled by Durban and District Cricket union at noon on Friday as wickets could not be prepared due to sodden surfaces from preceding rain on Thursday.
As a consequence, Umbilo Harlequins’ second cricket team and U11 side did not play their scheduled matches on Sunday. The first team had a KZN Challenge league stream one match against Simplex Reservoir Hills cricket club at 9am on Sunday morning.
On arrival at the scheduled venue, Siripat Park’s outfield was in sound and stable condition, but the bully content of the wicket surface was saturated. Despite a sturdy northerly wind, with some drying before the scheduled start of the match, there was insufficient sun to assist with the drying process. In the opinion of the opposition captain and the umpiring officials, it was unlikely that the surface would be sufficiently dry by the cut-off of 1.45pm and the Quins skipper reluctantly concurred, which resulted in the abandonment of this league match. Quins will be allocated just two points for the draw, which was certainly not the reward hoped for.
Next Saturday, 26 October, the sixth side take on Clares 4 at Asheville in a 30 over division 5 match.
On Sunday, 27 October the U11 team play Delta U11s 2 at Highbury Road three, starting at 8.30am.
The first team take on Railways from Tongaat in a 50 over Challenge league stream match starting at 9am at Harlequins one.
The second eleven engage with Pinetown 2 in a 40 over Challenge reserve game commencing at 1pm at Lahee Park.
The third team take on INK 1 at SL Singh 2 in a 35 over division one encounter commencing at 1.30pm.
The fourth side play Delta 4 in a 30 over division 2 match up at Harlequins 2 starting at 1.30pm and the fifth team challenge FAM 1 in a division 3 game at Isipingo Oval, commencing at 1.30pm.
