WOODLANDS’ Bowling Club’s monthly open pairs were played on Wednesday, 6 November with a good turnout of 14 teams, considering the absence of the pensioners who were lunching at Toti.
Hobgobling crept into the despatches where Chris Pozyn and Arod Moodley were erroneously declared as overall winners on 4+16, whereas Cora van der Westhuizen and Eileen Du Plessis actually had a score of 4+19 but were awarded the first session prize on +16. The error is regretted and apologies were made to the women.

Rosa Vincent pocketed the lion’s share of the 60/40 board with Sharon de Kock settling for the scraps. The consolation drawn chocolates went the way of Norman Moore skip, Ronnie Jackson skip and Rosa and Dave Vincent, leads.
The following day, Thursday, 7 November saw a reasonable turnout for the monthly breakfast fours.
First past the post and contributing to the most cheering were Rina Harper, Louisa Mc Gill, Linda Hewer and Andy Cloete on 4+22.
George Harris, Phillip, Buck Boeteger and Alan Bird on +15 walked away with the first session with Terry Micholson , Phil Pieterse and Val McCafwey scooping the second session on +18. Bob Hayward took the most home and the two 60/40 boards paid dividends to John Somerville (40). Ellen Loots (40), Dirk Venter (20) and Keith Wild (20).
The drawn chocolates sweetened the teeth of Dennis Geriecke skip, Dave Vincent third, Dave Rowe second and Johan Nel lead.
Results of domestic matches played over the weekend are as follows: Rina Harper beat an improving Rosa Vincent 21-14 and Gloria Rice breezed past Linda Hewer 21-6 in the women’s round robin singles. The men’s nominated pairs match between Arthur Carlyle and Brian Kimber vs Norman Moore and Anthony Smith was postponed after 11 ends, due to rain, with Arthur and Brian leading 20-5. It will be resumed in two weeks.
Friday night’s meat draw saw Stan McNamara, Abie Joubert and Adina Swanepoel pick the right numbers. Kobus van Vuuren was not present to extend the snowball pool and Claude Bond lined his pocket in the monthly R500 bonus draw.
The numbers 2-7-10 produced yet another lotto jackpot carry-over, which stands at R1,003 while George Moore’s name emerged first from the barrel in the Saturday swindle to choose the pork roast.
The other winners were Bev Jenkins, Arlene Leuchars, Dawn and Brian Eliiot, George Moore and Dave Vincent. Neville Horner threw a cherry with his last dart to take the wind out of the sails of Glen de Wildt, who celebrated his 37th and Mike and Shireen their 31st wedding anniversary on Wednesday, 6 November .

Chubbydale Greg Berry reports that father-in-law Dirk Venter is now getting up to more shenanigans than himself and he will now have to take a big tug on his reins to prevent him from stealing his limelight.
