Weather claims final 2013 cricket league fixtures

All rounds of league cricket for the current year have now been completed.

NO league cricket matches were played on 30 and 1 December due to two factors, as the Durban and District Cricket Union cancelled all scheduled Sunday matches due to the one day international at Kingsmead on Sunday, 1 December, and rain on Saturday caused the fifth division match to be cancelled and rain on Saturday night caused the KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union’s Challenge League stream match between Quins and Pinetown at Harlequins to be cancelled due to a saturated wicket and outfield.

Of the 51 league matches which were scheduled to be played out during the first half of this season, Quins teams only took to the field on 19 occasions, equating to a 37% participation rate. Some 23 matches were abandoned due to prevailing weather conditions. Two matches were postponed due to Ethekwini parks south maintenance utility refusing to fulfil its tasks on fields, and one match was relocated due to the parks team’s incompetence in maintenance.

All rounds of league cricket for the current year have now been completed. All teams will be engaged in matches on Sunday, 19 January, however the second and third sides have league match commitments at home on 12 January as well.

Training sessions will cease for the remainder of the year and commence in the new year. Anyone aligned to the club, who is interested in a study bursary for the upcoming year, can call Ernest on 031-467-3270.

Umbilo Harlequins Cricket club wishes all a restive festive interlude.
