Mixed fortunes for Bluff BC in PN pairs

The first session was won by Mike Berry and Dudley Dorrofield on a 2+20.

THE Port Natal Bowls mixed pairs commenced this past Sunday, when the first two rounds were played.

Bluff Bowling Club had quite a large field of entrants participating and at the time of going to press, there were only three sides that won both rounds so well done to the defending champions Clinton and Sarie Bisset, Robert Mhlongo and Glynis Macrory, Dave Le Roux and Bridget White.

On Friday the Tony Hoggins 3-2-1 killer took place and the overall winners were Ashleigh and Ron Jackson on a massive 4+52. The first session was won by Mike Berry and Dudley Dorrofield on a 2+20 while the second session was won by Ken Koch and Gary Moffat on a 2+28. Dirk Venter had the most touchers with nine and the roast beef was won by John Yunnie who also won, along with Tony Hoggins who took the sportsmen’s prize on a 0-34.

The board winners were Dirk Venter and Eric Smit.

On Saturday the men’s league was played and both the A and B teams went down. The A side lost four and a half points to two and a half while the B side lost 5-0 to Umhlali.

There were three women’s competition matches played on Saturday afternoon and in the women’s nominated pairs, Janice Rodgers and June Foster beat Eve Michna and Jean Fraser, while Lilah Nel and Ronel Morel defeated Glynis Macrory and Jay Retief. In the women’s open singles Bridget White knocked out Daphne Reinhardt.

The men’s league sides have been selected for next week so check the notice board for that and other postings.

The Bell pairs will be played on Sunday, 13 April with the Brian Osman pairs on 17 April, followed by the Lilah Nel pairs on 20 April.

On the health front, the club has been told that Clarke Meyer is making improvement but is still undergoing treatment and the club wishes him well.
