Whites’ trips team takes spoils at Wentworth BC

Dawn Spack went away with the meat raffle and Patricia Buys won the whisky raffle.

WENTWORTH Bowling Club had a busy week and in the Howe’s ur Fatha played on 25 June, first prize went to Dirk Venter and Willie Gericke with +12.

Second prize was taken by Ken Thomas and Bob Hayward with +17.

Overall winners was Paul Steele and Sharon de Kock with 4 + 14. The Kentucky ham was won by Rosa Vincent. The 60/40 board went to Willie Gericke and Ellen Loots and Ina Davies won the whisky raffle again.

Family and friends fun bowls was played on Wednesday, 25 June. First prize went to Johnny du Plessis, Stan McKenzie and Ann Bonthrone, sportsman’s prize was taken by Bokka Geldenhuys and Zoe Dougal while the 60/40 board went to Margaret Walters twice.

Results for the Rawsons breakfast trips played on 26 June saw first prize go to mother and son Paul and Bridget White and Lilah Nel with 4 + 21, second prize was taken by John Somerville, Terry Micholson and Ellen Loots with 4 + 15. First session was won by Alex Fisher, Brian Osman and Paula Osman, while second session went to Deon Els, Willie Gericke and Patricia Buys. The 60/40 board was won by Honey Kitchenbrand and Alex Fisher.

In the men’s Friday casual bowls on 27 June, first prize went to Spider Williams and Eric Miller with + 38 and second prize to John Somerville, Tomcat Cavanagh and Brian King with +9. The sportman’s prize was taken by Dirk Venter and Henry Welgemoed.

Big Jim was played on 29 June. Overall winners were Clinton Bissett and Doggie Tonkin with + 24. First session was won by Barry Maisfield and Dave McCann with + 14 and second session was taken by Richard Hendecott and Chris Klopper with + 24. The first 60/40 board was won by Tomcat Cavanagh and Michelle and the second board went to Maria Cavanagh and Keith Wild. Robbie Carr won the meat raffle and Richard Hendicott won the whisky raffle. The next Big Jim will be on 27 July.

Best wishes to Brian Smith with his recovery after a knee replacement, and Jumbo Nel, who had an accident at the club on Sunday. He is in members’ thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

Events for the next week see family and friends fun bowls at 3pm on Wednesday, 2 July, where all new bowlers are welcome. Take along flat soled shoes, bowls are available. There is a bring and braai afterwards, take along your meat and a salad and join.

On Friday, 4 July, it’s the men’s casual bowls at 9am. The kitchen is open daily from Tuesdays until Sundays from 8am until 6pm. Breakfast, bar lunches and Sunday lunches are served. On Tuesdays at 12.30pm pensioners can enjoy scones with strawberry jam and cream, served with tea. Call Ina Davies on 082-768-4644. Big screen TV for all the sports fanatics.
