IN an otherwise quiet week at home with no club comps reported and no home events played, three Wanderers Bowling Club teams achieved a modicum of success in other tournaments outside the Durban area.

In the Kokstad weekend tournament, Steve Van Rooyen, Richard Hendicott, Mike Flack and Jeff Bolt finished in top spot and won for themselves a whole frozen boxed lamb each.

Eric Smit with Clive Symons Russell Shepherd and Ronnie Hook finished in fourth place. Playing in the Dolphin Classic at Umhlali over three days, Johnnie Goosen, Bob Hayward, Dave Denbeigh and Mike Freeman finished third against a top class field and won the R6,000 on offer.

Last week’s various meat pack winners were: Mutton pack Ted Green, pork roast Daniel Nel, chicken pack Peter Fox, pork ribs Dianne Swan, rump steak Daniel Nel, chicken Leon Hauptfleisch.

In the R50 monthly bowls draw, winners were R750 Thomas Simpkins, R500 Richard Hendicott, R250 Eric Redman.

Next Friday, after the snowball and raffle, stay and watch the Sharks bite the Lions at 7.10pm with sound on both TVs. After the match is over at around 9.15pm, members can dance to the music of 'Memory Stick'.

The PNB men’s and women’s fours gets underway on Sunday, 5 October with three rounds of 15 ends scheduled to take place on a round robin basis. Section winners will resume the following Sunday, 12 October and play a further two matches of 21 ends each. Men resume at Westville Bowling Club and women at Lahee Park. Contenders are to note the early start time of 8.30am.

Those with matches still to be played will have the opportunity on Saturday, 4 October.
