Arnie and Robin prevail in Wanderers BC club comps

Last Friday’s snowball of R1,400 was not won as Caryn Turk was not present.

TWO club competition matches took place during the week at Wanderers Bowling Club.

In the men’s drawn fours, Robin Grobler, Kim Hawkins, Russell Shepherd and Shaun McAlister had a ding dong battle against Johnny Goosen (in for a sickly Lofty Cawthorne), Bob Hayward, Jimmy Neill and Phil Pieterse.

The game was peeled five times over the course of 21 ends, the turning point coming on the 19th end when Robin’s side gathered four shots when the match was peeled at 16 all. This was the only end in which four points were attained by either side, and with only two ends to go, the writing was on the wall.

Each side typically scored one point on each of those ends, with the win going to Robin and his merry men at 21-17.

In the only other match played, Arnie Harper and Heather Beselaar had an equally interesting tussle against Derek Stevens and Gwen Tait in the nominated mixed pairs. Arnie and Heather were a good few shots down in the final stretch of the game, but fought bravely on to squeak through to win by a single shot at 20-19.

Note that the draw for the nominated mixed pairs is on the board, and is carded to get underway on or before the weekend of 1 November.

Last Friday’s snowball of R1,400 was not won as Caryn Turk was not present when her membership number was drawn. The jackpot thus escalates to some serious money for next Friday so be sure to be there in time for the 6.45pm draw with your current membership card in case your number comes up.

The various meat pack winners were: Mutton pack Allan Roberts, pork steaks and rib fingers Lara Kruger, chicken pack Haley Mackay, rump steak Mitty Chelin, pork ribs Leon Hauptfleisch, chicken Sherry Badenhorst.
