Fine showing by Wanderers BC players in Westville tournament

Last Friday’s snowball of R1,500 was not won as Terry Brown was not present when his membership number was drawn.

WITH very little activity happening on the Wanderers Bowling Club home greens this week, only two club competitions were played on Saturday afternoon.

In the nominated mixed pairs, Ken Koch and Lorraine Du Preez beat Bill and Cynthia Addinall 33-17 and Nicola Bauristhene and Tommy Simpkins beat Phil Pieterse and Val McCaffrey 24-12.

Tommy, who is still a novice, was quite excited to have won his first club competition since starting the game late last year.

Three Wanderers teams entered the Westville Bowling Club annual Spring tournament played out over the weekend. Mike Freeman teamed with Eric Smit, Kim Hawkins and Robin Grobler managed to win a session prize and thus got their entrance fee back. Richard Hendicott picked the right number to win a huge liquor hamper but the best result was obtained by Steve Van Rooyen’s team of himself, Graham Funnell, Bob Hayward and George Harris who finished in second place to scoop the R12,000 prize money on offer. One more point would have secured first place overall.

Last Friday’s snowball of R1,500 was not won as Terry Brown was not present when his membership number was drawn. On Friday, 7 November it will be worth R1,600.

The various meat pack winners were: Leg of lamb Mitty Chelin, spiced lamb and pork chops Raymond Smolas, chicken pack Mitch Mitchley, rump steak Troy Simpkins, pork ribs Robbie Carr, chicken Pam Griffiths.

In the bowls monthly draw, R750 went to Ernie Lochner, R500 to Denise Lottering and R250 to her husband Billy Lottering.
