Sharks feed on guppies at Bluff BC

The Sharks immediately embarked on a feeding frenzy with the guppies desperately trying to avoid annihilation into extinction.

THE annual Sharks versus Guppies took place at Bluff Bowling Club on Tuesday, 16 December with the Sharks made up from the testosterone filled beefy and in some cases potbellied male members and the Guppies comprising of the petite, elegant and dainty better species.

The damp weather imposed a depleted representation on both sides and an hour's delay, however 16 all-weather bowlers took to the greens for the 15 ends contest.

The Sharks immediately embarked on a feeding frenzy with the guppies desperately trying to avoid annihilation into extinction. Teatime came with the Sharks holding a commanding 17 shot overall advantage with the guppies hastily retreating to repair the make up of their ensemble and hold an intuitive council of war to restrategise their fightback.

Brian Osman, the non-starting captain of the Sharks, decided to implement a change and substituted himself into the fray, which unbeknownst to all concerned invoked a five-shot penalty against the Sharks. The revitalised guppies emerged with a new gameplan which included a ketchup-infused towelling kilt after a small mishap and an intimidation plan to attack the rearguard of the sharks while on the mat with an astute nip here and there and Kermit the frog measure along with the odd sly little kick to improve the position of their bowls in the head when the Sharks were otherwise occupied.

The guile seemed to work, with the guppies mounting a determined challenge but the overstuffed lethargic sharks managed to hold on and claim the trophy for another year with the five shot penalty evening the matches to one each but the Sharks holding an off shot advantage.

The match was followed by a bring and share braai which was enjoyed by all. It is hoped that next year there will be more support to this entertaining fixture. There will be a bring and share snack evening on Old Year's Eve starting at around 8pm and all are welcome to attend. No more organised bowls are planned for the rest of the year, with 2015 resuming with the Bells any pairs on Sunday, 4 January. Call Allen Ritchie on 083-441-5130 to enter teams. The Eddie Human/June Foster drawn pairs 3-2-1 killer will resume on Friday, 9 January. Tabs are to be in by 8.30am.

The popular Twilight Two bowl trips kick off at 5pm on Friday, 16 January. The entry list is on the board at the club. On the domestic front, the 2015 campaign starts with the mixed drawn fours on Sunday, 11 January. Once again the list is up at the club. Finally the president and his committee wish all members a happy and festive Christmas and prosperous good bowling for the New Year.
