Cricket fixtures resume this weekend
More substantial damage was incurred to the outfield at Lt King Park recently when three people allegedly arrived on a light delivery vehicle at about 5pm on Fridays.
WITH the exception of the first and fourth teams, all Umbilo Harlequins Cricket Club sides have scheduled league matches on Saturday, 10 January or Sunday, 11 January.
On Saturday at 1.30pm, Quins' sixth team takes on Simplex Reservoir Hills 10 in a 30 over division five encounter at Siripat Road 2.
On Sunday at 1 pm, Quins' second team do battle with East Coast two in a 40 over challenge reserve match at Harlequins 1. Quins third side play Crusaders 3 in a 30 over division one game at Crusaders 2 at 1.30pm. Quins' 5th team challenges DHS/ Rhythm 5 in a division three commitment at Harlequins 2, commencing at 1.30pm.
The U13 side takes on a development team called FAM at Harlequins 2 in an U13 South youth league match from 8.30am and the U11 team plays Umgababa in a 30 over South youth league match at Harlequins 1.
Some 80% of all the club's matches have been ruined by rain and Quins hopes for a successful second half of the current season with less impact from rain. All cricketers should expect the usual substandard outfields due to neglect by the local authority in the upcoming weekend. Fortunately motorbike hooligans seem to have stayed away from Harlequins' cricket fields so far this season, but unfortunately the fields have sustained some damage from irresponsible golfers. Golfers are requested to join one of the two adjacent clubs and abstain from utilising the cricketers' facility.
More substantial damage was incurred to the outfield at Lt King Park recently when three people allegedly arrived on a light delivery vehicle at about 5pm on Fridays. They staged their vehicle on the eastern side of the fields and alighted with their quad bike, taking turns to destroy the surface by doing sharp turns at speed. These deeds should be regarded as worse than mere misdemeanours and should equate to felony. The cricket club would be elated if those responsible could be arrested.
Junior coaching sessions resume on Thursdays at 5pm.
