Non-bowlers’ touchers bring cheer at Woodlands chicken run

The surrounding area of the bowling green was very colourful with the red, white and blue colours of REMAX.

WOW, what a turnout there was for the chicken run fun day at Woodlands Bowling Club on Saturday.

Thanks must go to Pieter and his team from Remax for sponsoring the fun day and the lovely prizes handed out to many of the players.

There were Remax banners and a jumping castle for the little ones to entertain themselves.

The surrounding area of the bowling green was very colourful with the red, white and blue colours. The weather was cool and the rain held off. There was much excitement as the non-bowlers delivered their bowls and shouts when getting ‘touchers’ on the jack or getting close to the jack. Halfway through the game, the players were served tea and drinks with amazing snacks. Thanks to all the Woodland bowlers for supplying snacks. To end the afternoon, there was a bring and share braai enjoyed by all who attended. Overall winners were Rina Harper, Daphne Els, Nicholas Hewer and Gavin Conlon. In second place were Gloria Rice, Keith Jenkins, Liz and Bridgette Conlon. In third place were Andy Cloete, David Lloyd, Beth and Suzie Wentwoth-Hayne. In joint fourth place were Arnie Harper, Bryce Bower, Steve and Shirley and Linda Hewer, Jason Hewer, Mandy Williams and Faye McIntosh. Most touches on the jack were Mandy Williams, Nicholas Hewer with three touches each and Dayl McIntosh and Gavin Conlon with two touches each. The swindle winners of R40 each were Colleen Roden, Arthur Carlyle and Arnie Harper.

Wednesday, 4 February and Thursday, 5 February is the any pairs competition. To enter a team, call Linda Hewer on 082-724-6575 and on Thursday it’s the casual fours breakfast. Call Arthur Carlyle on 076-588-7377.

On Friday night Maggie Simpkins’ name was drawn for the snowball, but it is another carry-over as she was not there. The meat draw winners are Glen Morris, Mike McFarland and Dixie. The Saturday swindle winners were Peter Jenkins, Sharmaine Christensen, George Moore, Arnie Harper, Dave and Arlene Leuchars, Sandra Cox, Roger Turner, Gordon Voigt and Lyndon Smith.

Don’t forget on Friday nights, Colin Dawson has delicious food available from the kitchen as take-away or sit on the veranda and enjoy. To hire the main club hall or the tabs room for smaller functions, call Linda Hewer on 082-724-6575.
