The Acutts any pairs took place on Sunday, 1 February in gloomy conditions with a good field of 24 teams and the cool weather was appreciated. Clinton Bisset and Jorge Santos, after an initial hiccup in the early parts of the first session, came good to be first past the post with a 4+14 and occupy the perch for March after de-roosting Lilah and Ronel. Spouses Dawn and Kurt Spack on +16 and Brian and Paula Osman on +14 kept the divorce empty to win the first and second sessions respectively.

Kurt then snaffled the pork roast and Honey Margaret Kitchenbrand banked the 50/50 board. The Port Natal novices continued at Durban BC on Saturday morning where Dawn Spack exited from the last 16 but Bluff’s Patricia Buys won her last 16 game 21-12 and then went one better to win her last eight game 21-8 to advance to the last four. Support her at Durban on Saturday morning.

After two legs of the Warwick/Neveling 2 Bowl Twilight trips, Dave le Roux and Paul and Bridget White still lead and play second-placed Richard Hendicott, Jackie and Mike Freeman next Friday. Three matches are posted for Sunday, 8 February in the first round of the club drawn mixed trips. Lilah Nel, Judy Marais and Allen Moor versus Eddie Human, Noel Morel and Patricia Buys.

Robert Mhlongo, Kurt Spack and Koekie Koekemoer versus Clinton Bisset, Phyllis Maritz and Michael Schudel and Spider Williams, Ronel More and Dawn Spack versus Daphne Reinhardt, Norman Robinson and Dave Lavis at 9pm. The women’s competition draws have been done and are up on the notice board with some games posted so check, as some matches have dates to be played by or on a certain date. The club honours board will be updated with the 2014 winners next week. On 10 March, the second Tuesday, Bluff Spar will sponsor a new any pairs 2-4-2 competition which will continue on the second Tuesday of every month thereafter. All interested in participating can call Gary Moffat on 076-680-4577. Get your teams of three together for the pub quiz on Friday, 6 March at 7.30pm where there will be prizes for the top brainboxes. A belated happy birthday to Bridget White for last week. While she is not telling the number, the two digits add up to seven.
