Midweek league finals looms
Last Friday’s snowball of R500 was not won as Elaine de Jager was not present.

By Bob Hayward
LAST Wednesday’s Lyn Wild’s pairs saw the first session go the way of Dawn and Kurt Spack on plus 14; Robbie Carr and Bob Hayward won the second session with plus 13 and the overall prize went to the only team to win both sessions with the modest score of 4+5 and that was George Harris and Ken Thomas.
Kurt Spack increased his luck by also winning the lotto and R30 on the board. Gerrie Jackson won the lesser amount of R10. Dirk Roos won the meat raffle.
Players are reminded that the finals of the midweek league will take place at Hillary on Wednesday, 27 May at 1.30pm. It is between Steve, Richard, Graham and Eric playing a Durban team skipped by Ruaan Victor. Support will be appreciated so pitch up in droves for the occasion.
League resumes next Saturday so keep an eye on the board for selections.
In the first round of the mixed nominated pairs, Joan Bruce and Bob Hayward won 27-7 against Jimmy Neill and Chantal Hearnshaw who signed the card after 16 ends. In the second round Lofty Cawthorne and Jo-Anne Jordaan continued on their winning way by despatching Derek Stevens and Gwen Tait 26-8; Robin Grobler and Lorraine Du Preez won 23-17 against Phillip Pieterse and Val McCaffrey.
Last Friday’s snowball of R500 was not won as Elaine de Jager was not present.
The various meat pack winners were:
- Lamb pack Carl van Rooyen,
- rolled beef Barbara Neill,
- pork roast Buks Swanepoel,
- rump steak Chris Fourie,
- chicken pack Eric Redman, and
- chicken Eric Kitchenbrand.
On a sad note, and particularly so for this scribe, Rosanne Hayward (Roz) passed away at St Augustine’s Hospital last Saturday morning after a long period of suffering and anguish, following a fall in which she broke her left hip bone. Her dickey heart just couldn’t manage the strain. Bob thanks the president, committee and all members and friends who have overwhelmed him with their love, support and encouragement. Roz’s memorial service will be held during the week (hopefully Thursday) at His Church in Pinetown.
