Ramblers gear up for more technical hikes

On Sunday, 28 June hikers will traverse Summerveld/Hammarsdale falls with hike leader Jon Stevens.

DURBAN Ramblers Hiking Club takes in the sights of Isithumba (Old Baldy) on Saturday, 27 June.

Meet at the Assagay Hotel at the earlier time of 1.30pm to drive to iSithumba. This difficult hike, with steep hills and rock climbing involved, is graded five and is not for the unfit, but views are worth the effort. The R20 cost per person will be given to Durban Green Corridor Project.

Meet at Pinetown at 8am or Polo Pony Hotel at 8.15am and proceed to the hike start.

This is rural tranquillity, with a bit of industry on the side. There are some river crossings, so be prepared. The hike offers good views of the falls. Petrol sharing from Pinetown costs R15. This 19km hike is graded three, moderate to strenuous.
