Two hikes for Saturday explorers this weekend

Hikers will meet at 6am at Union Main Centre, Old Main Road, Pinetown, and the hike will be from Minerva Heights to Osgodsby in the Richmond area.

DURBAN Ramblers Hiking Club will be spoilt for choice, with two Saturday hikes this coming weekend.

On Saturday, 25 July, hikers can venture out to Minerva Heights, Byrne Valley in the morning and North Park Reserve in Queensburgh in the afternoon.

For the afternoon hike to North Park Reserve, which is a great hike for beginners, hike leader is Linda Smith. Call her on 083-353-8319.

Meet at 1.45pm at the North Park Nature Reserve parking area at the end of Anderson Road, which is off Main Road in Queensburgh. This short hike is in a forested area and up to a view point overlooking part of the Queensburgh area. There is a R20 entrance fee.

The hike is graded two, and is easy to moderate with some uphills.

The morning hike to Minerva Heights in Byrne Valley must be booked with Dave, as limited numbers can be accommodated. Call hike leader Dave Tighe on 031-464-9247 or 079-153-2846 for directions and to book.

Hikers will meet at 6am at Union Main Centre, Old Main Road, Pinetown, and the hike will be from Minerva Heights to Osgodsby in the Richmond area. This scenic route follows

along good tracks, plantation roads and open grasslands. It drops down through a magnificent indigenous forest and passes an old stand of mature yellowwood trees.

Accommodation is available at Minerva. This combined hike with Midlands and Mountain Backpackers is graded three and covers a distance of about 20kms.
