WEDNESDAY’S family and friends development bowls was, once again, well attended at Wentworth Bowling Club.
It is encouraging to see the impact this initiative is having on new bowlers.
Anyone in the community who would like to try their hand at the game of lawn bowls is invited to attend this casual, friendly activity. Remember, one of the advantages bowls has over golf is that you seldom lose a bowling ball. Winners this week were Eaton Rice and Albert van Niekerk.
Phil Hill, Margaret Walters and Ruth Petzer took home the weekly biscuit prize. Wayne Smith and Rick Blann shared the winnings on the first 60/40 board and Frank Greyvenstein and Bokka van der Westhuizen scooped the loot on the second board.
On Friday the Bluff Meats men’s bowls hosted many familiar faces. Steven Evenwell skipped his team of Ashley Sherrit and Brian Britain to win the morning’s top prize. In second place were Herbie Hoffman, Kurt Spack and Neil Smith. The sportsmen’s prize went to Chris Pozyn, Rick Blann and Johan Nel. Dave Carrol was the happy recipient of the raffled pork and Kurt ‘Rabbit Foot’ Spack, who never leaves without some booty, won the beef raffle. Graham Bransby won the big prize on the first board and Dave Carrol heard his number called for the second prize. The second board was won by Brian Smith and Bill Addinall.
The organisers thank Maria and Flo who run the raffles and boards each week. Big thanks to Anne and Pauline Bonthrone who stepped up to the plate to prepare tea and snacks in the absence of Ina.
On Saturday morning, spectators were treated to a clash of the Titans when Terry Micholson and Brian Smith took on Spider Williams and Wayne Smith in the final of the men’s nominated pairs competition. After 21 hard-fought ends, Spider and Wayne emerged as victors and club pairs champions.
This is the club’s busy week. On Wednesday, the Chicken Shack any pairs competition will be played at 9am. Thursday’s Rawson’s breakfast trips is the promised bumper event with cash prizes down to 10th place. On Sunday, competitors in the Spur Big Jim pairs will take to the green in an effort to take home the prizes.
Ina Davies has not been well. The club wishes her a speedy recovery so that members can enjoy her kitchen treats.
