ON Sunday, 20 September, Wanderers Bowling Club hosted the playoffs of the Port Natal Bowls district men’s and women’s nominated pairs.

This was amid fears that the weather would spoil the party as the previous day’s rain had washed out other planned events.

However, in cold and windy conditions the semis and finals were played to conclusion. In the semis, Craig Worst and Nick Horn managed to beat Brad Lezar and Graham Schouten and Ian Oehley and Wade Marshall managed to beat Stuart Milligan and Des Hean in the men’s section.

For the women, Louise Larkin and Leonie Koedyk beat Glenda Matthews and Bronwyn Webber while Bridget White and Glynnis Macrory beat Margie Van Der Lingen and Olga Baccus.

This set up the two finals between Worst and Horn versus Oehley and Marshall for the men and Larkin and Koedyk versus White and Macrory for the women while the semi final losers played out for third and fourth spots in each section.

Winners among the men were Craig Worst and Nick Horn (Hillcrest), runners up Ian Oehley and Wade Marshall (Hillary), 3rd Stuart Milligan and Des Hean (Stella Park) and 4th Brad Lezar and Graham Schouten (Durban). Women: Louise Larkin and Leonie Koedyk (Durban) won by a single shot over runners-up Bridget White and Glynnis Macrory (Bluff), 3rd Margie Van Der Lingen and Olga Baccus (Durban) and 4th Glenda Matthews and Bronwyn Webber (Durban).

Last Wednesday’s Lyn Wild’s pairs saw the first session won with 2+5 by Joan Bruce and Neville Roscoe, second session went to the brothers Bill and Ronnie Addinall on 2+16 and the overall winners on 4+8 went the way of Dennis Gericke and Chris Klopper. Colleen Blenner-Hassett scooped R30 in the 30/50 board and Bob Hayward won the meat raffle. The lotto was a carry-over as nobody chose the winning combination of 5-8-9.

Next month Ronnie Jackson will be back from his extended holiday to resume the running of the two mid-month competitions.

Rainy conditions on Saturday put paid to the proposed men’s senior singles as well as the women’s nominated pairs, which were both postponed to 3 October.

Last Friday the R600 snowball was won by Peter Coetzee.

The meat hamper winners were: Lamb pack Dianne Swan; rolled beef Jackie Freeman; pork roast Jeff and Wendy; rump steak Trevor Du Plessis; chicken pack JLB; chicken PJ Sparks.
