Bowlers mourn Tonkin’s death

Saturday is the start of the Port Natal open singles, in which a section is being played at the club, starting at 1pm.

IT is with deep regret that Bluff Bowling Club announces the death of Wayne (Doggy) Tonkin on Friday, 29 January.

Doggy was an old Bluff boy who did his schooling at Grosvenor Boys and went on to play soccer on the Bluff, before he took up bowls.

The club’s deepest sympathy goes to Elize and the family.

The memorial service will be held at Grosvenor Boys High at 3pm on Friday, 5 February followed by a wake at Bluff Bowling Club.

In the women’s drawn fours competition played on Saturday, Bridget White, Lilah Nel, Dawn Spack and Paula Osman beat Daphne Reinhardt Glynis Mackrory, Ronel Morel and Kitty Schaefer. The winner of the attendance draw on Friday was Ivor Aylward who was not present so the kitty rolls over to R320 this week.

Due to Doggy’s untimely death, the twilight trips due to be played on Friday, 5 February has been moved to the following Friday. This week the club has the 3-2-1 killer sponsored by June Foster and Eddie Human on Friday morning.

Saturday is the start of the Port Natal open singles, in which a section is being played at the club, starting at 1pm. Another two markers are needed, so if anyone can help, contact Kurt Spack. Section one, which includes Hilton Lassak, starts at 8am.
