CONGRATULATIONS to Alec Stirzaker, Val de Kok, Adrienne Robbins, Ken Leech and Linda McGregor who won the Easter tournament played on Saturday and Sunday at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club.

Well done to runners-up Glen Scorgie, Heather Brown, Barry Buckland, Elmarie Young and Bernie Bretherton with reserve Talla Stephens-Viviers. In third place were Doug Joubert, Amanda Ninow, Colin Coetzee, Lys McDonald and Wessie van der Westhuizen, and fourth were Doreen Salmond, John Hewgill, Nicky Stirzaker, Tokkie de Kock and Leon van Rensburg. Session prize skips were 1st Peter Callaghan; 2nd Ian Crouch; 3rd Gerald Chalder-Royle; 4th Adie Fuller; and 5th Ian Shearer; and Pam Chalder-Royle’s team won the sportsman’s prize. The 100 boards were won by Bobby Henderson and Glen Scorgie. John Hewgill won the best dressed with his edible hat.

Many thanks go to Mickey Roche and team for the greens, the bar staff, Doug Joubert for the music, Alan McGregor for the scoring, and Glen Scorgie for his organisation. Thanks also to generous sponsorship from Jackie Holdrick and ABC, which made sure that everyone walked away with a prize; and most of all for the players for making this fun tournament possible.

Well done to Doreen Salmond and team on winning their second midweek league game. Good bowling to Doreen in Johannesburg and Jeanne Alexander in Port Elizabeth, where they are both playing provincial bowls next week.

There were two good wins in the men’s handicap singles, with Leon van Rensburg beating Colin Coetzee; and Vince Phaal triumphing over Alf Bingham. In the open singles, Alec Stirzaker defeated Wessie van der Westhuizen, and Keith Berry had a close win against William Sithole.

In the mixed pairs, Val de Kok and Boet Els beat Alec and Nicky Stirzaker, while the women’s open singles saw Marion Crouch overcome Jeanne Alexander.

Friday, 1 April is Scroungers, and Saturday and Sunday, 2 and 3 April will be the Brad Cox tournament. Note there will be no big chicks or mutton in April due to the greens being used in the Port Natal mixed pairs tournament (Oppenheimer), which starts on Sunday, 10 April. The next big chicks is scheduled for 22 May and the mutton for 29 May, which will be the 4th and 5th Sundays, as ABC will also be hosting some men’s national pairs on Saturday and Sunday, 14 and 15 May.

Check the board for upcoming cardings. Happy birthday wishes this week go to Cedric Willis, Bill Riley, Clive Frank and Eric Klopper. Get well soon to all members who may be sick right now.
