All the SA men’s bowls tourney results
The Friday night snowball draw resulted in a R900 win for Charmaine Ellis.

THE South African national men’s bowls tournament ended at the weekend, with the semis and finals of all disciplines being played out at Parkhill Bowling Club in near perfect weather conditions.
A large contingent of spectators was in attendance. Full results for those interested are:
Open singles: K Kyriacou (PSHOB) – gold, J Roebert (Mowbray) – silver, Wayne Roberts (Stella Park) and G George (Avion Park) – bronze.
Senior singles: Mike Marnewick (Leases) – gold, Eddie Fann (Port Shepstone) – silver, B Pottow (Ruimsig) and B Loots (Beaconsfield Park) – bronze.
Pairs: Don Piketh and Theo Van der Walt (Edgemead) – silver, Gerry Baker and Kepler Wessels (Belgravia) – silver, Wayne Rittmuller and Wayne Roberts (Stella Park) and Bruce Makkink and Alan Du Toit (Westville) – bronze.
Fours: Theuns Fraser (The Nest) – gold, Dave Riley (Umhlali CC) – silver, Eddie Fann (Port Shepstone) and N Solomon (Goodwood) – bronze.
None of Wanderers Bowling Club’s competitors got beyond the round robin stage. In the open singles Steve Van Rooyen narrowly lost out to K Kyriacou who went on to win the title. Roy Funnell also finished second in his section with Robin Grobler and Graham Funnell both finishing fourth in their respective sections.
In the fours, Richard Hendicott and team finished third, Eric Smit and Steve Van Rooyen coming 4th and Robin Grobler ending in fifth place.
In the pairs, Ruaan Victor and Paul White came second in their section to D Piketh and T van der Walt, who also went on to win the title for the second year running. Steve and Graham also finished second on a count out in their section, Roy Funnell, Jimmy Neill and Eric Smit came third, Terrance came 4th, while Robbie Carr and Richard Hendicott came fifth.
As all normal local competitions were cancelled during the playing of the men’s nationals, there is no results report.
The Friday night snowball draw resulted in a R900 win for Charmaine Ellis. The meat winners were: Lamb – Porky Hauptfleish, rolled beef – Raymond S, pork roast – Barbara Neill, rump steak – PJ Sparks, chicken pack – Honey Kitchenbrand, chicken – Mitty Chelin.
The R500 lotto was not won and is a carry over.
The R10,000 fundraiser was won by Albert Diedericks who had the lucky ticket number 27.
In the soccer draw, Ronnie Hook’s team Leicester came first in the English Premier League, netting him R1,000. Mali Sewell drew Arsenal who came second, giving her R400. Troy and Wes Simpkins drew the third placed team Liverpool, yielding them R300, while Nicola and Charles Bauristhene won R200 for drawing Watford who finished 8th. Lofty Cawthorne received a consolation R100 for drawing the team that finished last, Aston Villa.
Members are to note the following important dates: A memorial service for Eric Kitchenbrand will be held on Saturday, 28 May at 11am at the club. Players from all clubs are welcome to attend as well as anyone who would like to pay their last respects. Honey has asked if the women could each supply a plate of snacks.
The main club AGM will be held on 30 May and the bowls prize-giving will be held on 12 June at 2pm in the tabs room. Kim and Lorinne Hawkins will be running a bowls fun day on Thursday, 16 June, which is a public holiday. Diarise these dates.
