Get positive about promoting peace

'I Meditate Africa' is a campaign promoting peace across Africa.

The Toti public is invited to attend the ‘I Meditate Africa’ event that takes place on Saturday, 23 May at the Chatsworth Youth Centre, RK Khan Circle, Arena Park.

‘I Meditate Africa’ is a campaign promoting peace across Africa, encouraging the use of meditation as part of mainstream peace building.

“Studies have proven that meditations can improve the quality of life for everyone,” said KZN co-ordinator, Latha Ramkisson. “At a time where there is such violence, misunderstanding and lack of human values in our country, let’s do something positive. Lets come together in peace, and unite people on a deeper level through the power of collective consciousness.”

Under ‘I Meditate Africa’, on Africa’s 50th anniversary of unification in 2013, an estimated 10,000 people from 23 African countries, 30 African cities and 54 international countries were led into the largest peace meditation for Africa, with noted humanitarian Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. Participating countries were Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Cameroon, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Malawi, Uganda, Tanzania, Tunisia, Nigeria, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Namibia, Mauritius, Morocco, DRC, Zambia, Ethiopia, Togo, Sudan and South Africa.

In 2014 again, during Africa Month, 100,000 people across 23 African countries meditated for peace for Africa.

“This was a resounding sign of people wanting to do something positive for our continent,” said Latha.

“We invite you to attend a public mega peace event on Saturday, where over 20 African countries will be lead into a peace meditation via webcast.”

Events are happening in Johannesburg, Cape Town and KZN. In KZN the Consul General of India, Shri R Raghunathan, the MEC for Education, Peggy Nkonyeni, and Dr Raj Govender of the department of arts and culture are confirmed as guest speakers.

Visitors must be seated by 4.45pm and the event finishes at 6.30pm.
