THE Bluff’s talented rhythmic gymnast, Hanna Faith Chengiah, is preparing to represent her community and province after being selected for the KZN Rhythmic Gymnastics team that will take part in the South African Gym Games in Cape Town from September 23-29.

The rising star in rhythmic gymnastics earned her spot on the team after claiming first place in her categories at the recent provincial championships, where she competed in individual clubs, hoops and ribbon. She also competed in the group routine.

A growing list of achievements

Being selected for the provincial team is yet another accolade for the youngster

In 2025, she was selected as part of team South Africa for the FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics Junior World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, where the team competed against gymnasts from more than 18 countries.
Earlier this year, she earned her Protea colours after qualifying to represent SA at the 2026 African Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Tshwane. Hanna and her teammates claimed three silver medals.
She previously recorded a first place and third place finish in her age group at the SA Gym Games.

Rhythmic gymnastics has been a part of Hanna’s life since she was four years old, and she continues to bear the fruits of the years of commitment.

Making a dream come true

With Hanna’s attention now on Cape Town, she must face her biggest hurdle of the financial challenge.

Raelene Chengiah, Hanna’s mother, said that they need to raise R15 000 to cover flights, accommodation, meals, her kit and competition expenses. With less than a week to go, there are still a lot more funds to be raised.
