
WEDNESDAY, 15 NOVEMBER: Birdlife Port Natal visits Stainbank Nature Reserve from 7.30pm. Call Sandi du Preez on 031-701-4839 or on 073-332-4431. This visit takes in open grassland, woodland, scrub and riverine vegetation, and the reserve also has a small dam, which attracts some water birds and nesting weavers. Meet at the loerie picnic site. There is an entrance fee (free with Wild Card or Rhino Card). Take your own chair, coffee/tea and snacks for a picnic afterwards.
SUNDAY, 19 NOVEMBER: The Flame Lily Foundation (incorporating the Rhodesia Association of South Africa) holds its 34th annual Rhodie golf day at Amanzimtoti Country Club, followed by a social braai with music by Graham Boyle. Proceeds from the day go towards supporting Rhodesian pensioners. The braai will start at about 1pm, after the golf. Limited braai packs will be on sale and the sadza, gravy and salads will be available for a small donation. There are still a few spaces open for fourballs. SATURDAY, 25 NOVEMBER: The annual Camino de Santiago practical workshop is for anyone planning to walk the Camino. It is to be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Old Main Road, Kloof from 8am to noon. The cost is R25 which includes handouts, tea and a donation to the church. SATURDAY, 2 DECEMBER: Arcadia Retirement Home fete aims to raise more money than usual, with food stalls selling mac and cheese, macaroni with bacon and cheese, chicken breyani, hamburgers, boerewors-rolls and hotdogs. the normal bric-a-brac, while doll clothes, art, books, milk-tarts and Christmas cakes will also be on offer.
