Association donates wheelchairs

Buddha’s Light International Association donates 12 wheelchairs to Mahambe Aids Foundation.

Twelve wheelchairs were donated to Mahambe Aids Foundation by Buddha’s Light International Association.

BLIA has donated over 1 million wheelchairs globally.

For this donation, councillor Nonhlanhla Sifumba encouraged other DA officials to make a contribution to a centre in Dobsonville.

Sifumba said the contribution has nothing to do with the elections; in fact it was part of their outreach programme.

“We found out that about 10 wheelchairs used by some patients were dysfunctional,” said Sifumba.

Many patients cared for by the foundation have no wheelchairs and though 12 were donated some still remain without them.

Councillor Michael Sun, who organised the wheelchairs, said he has started an outreach programme after seeing a man using a wheelchair made of plank in Diepsloot.

Sun said the foundation had the same problem.

“I connected the supplier to the people who needed the wheelchairs and we took it from there,” said Sun.

Promise Mainetja, of the foundation, thanked BLIA and the DA councillors for making a difference.
