Elderly receive winter blessings in abundance

The elderly at Ithuteng were graced with blankets and pillows ahead of the winter season.

The elderly at Ithuteng Caring Institute were blessed with winter goodies by members of the Faith Temple of Fire Centre Church on April 8.

The church donated 45 blankets and pillows to the elderly at the centre.

Senior pastor at the church, Mandla Mbatha said the donation was part of the congregation’s effort to give back to the community.

“We hope to donate more in future when we have enough resources. This centre was the first to receive donations from us this year and we hope to give to other centres overtime,” said Mbatha.

The institute operates as a non-profit organisation and rely greatly on donations to enable the centre to offer its services.

“The donation couldn’t have come at a better time as winter is around the corner. The elderly will be able to keep warm. Donations by the community and organisations keep us going.”, said Nomonde Cabangane who has been a caregiver at the centre since 2006.

Director, Phinda Nhlapo, urged residents to break the cycle of negligence towards the elderly and encouraged the community to help local organisations.

“We appreciate initiatives taken by residents and organisations to help us over the years. Whether it has been through donations or coming in to help us with the cleaning and so on.”

The elderly expressed their gratitude through songs of praise and prayer.

Residents or organisations who wish to offer help can contact the centre on 011 936 7021 or visit them at Senzangakhona Street in Meadowlands Zone Four.
