Anti-Tobacco Month focuses on smokers

CANSA teaches about the dangers of smoking.

As of May 1 until May 31, South Africa celebrates Anti-Tobacco Month.

Every May the country supports anti-tobacco to help those who smoke quit because of the dangers of smoking.

Besides causing lung cancer, smoking has other risks such as chronic lung and heart diseases.

CANSA Soweto had an anti-substance abuse campaign where they were teaching people about the dangers of abusing substances and the effects of smoking tobacco.

One of the effects they talked about were nicotine effects, which makes a person crave for tobacco and also makes it hard for them to quit.

The other dangers highlighted were second hand smoking, where a person who doesn’t smoke gets affected by being next to the person who is a smoker.

CANSA encourages people to participate in Anti-Tobacco Month and have a smoking free month.
