Missing staircase as a result of revamp

A photo of a block of flats without a staircase has been doing its rounds on social media where people are claiming the entire staircase has been stolen.

The staircase hasn’t been stolen but removed as it is the final phase of renovations for the block of flats in Diamant Street.

“The old staircase will be replaced with new stairs as part of the renovations taking place at the flats.

“The people living there have been given alternative accommodation,” Councillor Peter Rafferty said.

A new staircase has already been put in at one block of flats while another block’s staircase is to be removed as soon as the second block is complete.

This is the last phase of renovations at the flats as the inside has been completed.
