SANCA visits Reasoma Secondary School

The South African National Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence (SANCA) visited Reasoma Secondary School yesterday to teach pupils about the dangers of substance abuse.

SANCA Soweto, concentrated much on drugs since they are haphazardly used by the youth in communities.

“The most common substance used by teenagers is cigarettes, which contains over 610 chemicals,” said Xolile Mbatha of SANCA.

They also highlighted the dangers of tobacco used in hooker, which most pupils thought is safer than cigarettes.

“That is not the case as one flavoured tobacco is equivalent to at least 100 cigarettes,” said Mbatha.

She said the reason SANCA is going around schools teaching about substance abuse is because “we want to create a drug free community.”
