A family’s home was destroyed in Meadowlands.
Residents of Meadowlands upset over family home being destroyed with nowhere to go.
A family of seven has been left homeless after their house was destroyed by a group of men after it was sold without the knowledge of the family.
The woman who lived in the house with her family her whole life said she arrived home with the walls broken down and her belongings on the street and all over the yard.
According to the public relations officer of the police, Sergeant Octavia Thebe, she said the sheriff from the court went to the police station to ask to be escorted to the house.
“They had documents from the High Court confirming that the house had been sold, so we followed procedure and escorted them”, said Thebe.
Upon arrival to the house, a group of men then arrived with weapons in hand; furniture and the family’s belongings were then removed from the building.
The children were also asked to leave the premises.
The house was then destroyed to the disgruntlement of the neighbours, by the new owners request as he wanted to rebuild the house.
Residents were upset that the police didn’t stop the men from their actions.
“We couldn’t stop them, because we didn’t’ t have the right to due to the court documents they had produced earlier,” said Thebe.
According to the woman who was kicked out, she was going home from church when she discovered what had happened.
The person who sold the house, is her relative who had allegedly taken the title deed of the house and all other documents needed for the house being put on the market.
Looking distraught she said she intends to go to a family lawyer to investigate whether fraud could have taken place in the process.
With no stable income and only living on piece work, a willing neighbour has taken the family in, until they can assemble a temporary home with what remains of their belongings.
