Boyfriend sustains serious burn injuries trying to save girlfriend from fire
"Unfortunately, my brother’s girlfriend died from smoke inhalation," Nonhlanhla Mabiya.
A tragic incident occurred last night in Pimville Zone 6 at Mlahlankunzi Street when a fire broke out in one of the houses at approximately 10 pm. It is alleged that the cause of the fire may be a loose electrical connection.
“Unfortunately, my brother’s girlfriend died from smoke inhalation. Her body didn’t sustain burn wounds hence it was easier to identify her body,” said Nonhlanhla Mabiya.
It is alleged that the girlfriend is from Zimbabwe and her relatives are on their way to identify her corpse.
Mabiya said her brother (Mpumelelo Mabiya) is in hospital and he sustained serious injuries from the fire while he was trying to save his girlfriend’s life.
Residents tried, by all means, to extinguish the fire with the assistance from the fire department. Eskom was also contacted to check the electrical wiring in the house as the fire couldn’t be put off.
