The fear of testing and knowing your status forced Orlando Police station in partnership with Old mutual to host an open day on August 14 to help advocate a healthy living amongst the officers and the Community Policing Forum (CPF).

The spokesperson of Orlando Police station constable Monica Hangwani said they encourage one another to be fit and know their HIV status. She explained that sometimes you find that someone is suffering from a certain disease and is not aware because they have not tested and are not prepared to go and test.

She said they thought it was best to bring the service to the people because others do not get time to visit a health centre. Hangwani said Old mutual really helped them by organising nurses to check where they stand health wise.
“We are happy that most of our colleagues managed to check their HIV status and many other life threatening illnesses,” said Hangwani.
