Sophiatown artist releases first single titled ‘Last Chance’

"I really prayed about the message behind the song" - Anrich Winnaar.

Hip Hop artist, songwriter, vocalist, radio and television personality, Anrich Winnaar from Sophiatown released his very first single and tells us all about it.

Winnaar explained that he fell in love with the art of rapping in high school specifically Christian Rap music. He has been featured by artists such as Adriaan Jacobs, Blind Faith, Chozen_sa, RenegadePlug, Hurricane Ceasar, and Keagan Holland over the years but this year, the artist released his very first single titled ‘Last Chance’ on January 1.

“The song is about preparing yourself for the coming of Jesus Christ. I wrote this song with the intent to show people that time is short and we need to live right and be the light of the world as God intended it to be.

“As we can see this pandemic has shaken the world and taken so many of our loved ones but I do believe God’s raising young people to preach the Gospel with the fire of the Holy Spirit,” explained Winnaar.

The artist explained that he is inspired by artists such as YoungstaCPT, Shane Eagle, Sevin and Datin and hopes that he can bring a fresh new sound to the South African Christian Hip Hop industry.

Winnaar further shared that it took him about two days to write his first song. “I prayed about the message behind the song, normally a song would take me way longer because when I write I want to write sensible lyrics.

“I want the listeners to know what I’m trying to say and what message I’m trying to bring across. Now that my song is out, I feel really good about it. I’ve been getting a lot of great feedback from people who have listened to the single even people who don’t listen to rap music are blessed by it.”

The artist would like to empower young people by using God’s message through music to change people’s lives and to be a vessel of God’s work. His motto is ‘when God is in it, they’re no limits.’

Winnaar is currently working on an extended play (EP). He shared that there isn’t a set date for its release but guarantees that it will be within this year and he is set to have a few surprise features that he’ll be bringing on to the EP.

“I’d like to add that my music isn’t just for the people in the church, my music is for absolutely everybody. Yes, I might be fixed on the message if Christ but there might be something in my music that could have a huge impact on your life the reason, I do all of this is to inspire and to be the voice to people who think things but never really say them,” concluded Winnaar.
