“After 373 days out injured Special thanks to the Orlando Pirates medical team and technical team. I wouldn’t be here without you all. I was a difficult person to deal with at times but we pulled through,” Lepasa said after making his long-awaited return to action during a 2- 1 win over Amazulu in the DSTV Premiership League encounter on Thursday.

The 24-year-old is one of the country’s highest-rated strikers and was tipped to lead the Buccaneer frontline after returning on loan from TS Galaxy, where he secured a Nedbank Cup trophy. He sustained what looked like a minor injury but saw his mental strength tested after the injury was reported to have been aggravated by an infection and he had to start the recovery process all over again.

Orlando Pirates have been plagued by injury and have missed some of their key players. Talisman Thembinkosi Lorch missed over 20 matches while Striker Gabadinho Mhango over 10 matches due to injury.

Despite the lack of options though, Ezikamagebhula have performed reasonably well in the league, sitting only behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Buccaneers will return to action on February 16 after the Afcon tournament with a home encounter against Golden Arrows. The rest will come as welcome relief and see both Lepasa and Lorch make their full recoveries. The Sowetan side will need all their attackers in full fitness if they are to challenge 5-time consecutive league winners Sundowns.
