Attempted murder suspect arrested with gun in Eldorado Park

Wanted suspect arrested after police find unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Silika Street.

A 26-year-old wanted suspect linked to an attempted murder case was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Eldorado Park on April 11.

The arrest was made by members of the Crime Prevention Unit, together with Gauteng Traffic Wardens who were conducting routine crime prevention duties across the precinct when they received crime intelligence about the suspect’s whereabouts.

The information indicated that the suspect, wanted for attempted murder, was seen sitting with friends in Silika Street, Old Eldorado Park, at around 15:00 on April 11.

Police, joined by Crime Intelligence and the Anti-Gang Unit, swiftly responded to the tip-off.

According to the Eldorado Park SAPS media liaison officer, on arrival, officers identified the suspect, who was carrying a black sling bag.

The 9mm firearm with a wooden handle and live ammunition recovered by police during the operation in Eldorado Park.

The members followed up on crime intelligence information and proceeded to the address

Upon searching the suspect, after permission was granted, a 9mm firearm with a brown wooden handle and 12 rounds of live ammunition were found in his possession, she explained.

Khobo added that the suspect failed to produce a valid license for the firearm.

He was subsequently arrested and detained at Eldorado Park SAPS cells.

He is expected to appear in court soon on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, with further investigations ongoing.

Station commander Brigadier Mkhacani Maluleke commended the officers involved for their swift response and consistent efforts in removing illegal firearms from the community.
