Johannesburg police recover 11 stolen vehicles in multi-day operation

Intelligence-led raids across the district led to multiple recoveries and arrests, with police vowing to intensify the crackdown on vehicle crime.

The police in Johannesburg District recovered 11 vehicles during operations held throughout the district from April 13 to 17.

While some of the vehicles were recovered during intelligence-driven operations, others were recovered by JHB Flying Squad members.

On April 15, the police received a tip-off about a motor vehicle being stripped in progress at a house in Diepkloof Zone 1.

Upon arrival, a Toyota Hilux double was recovered. The vehicle was reported stolen in Midrand, and the suspects are still at large.

A Toyota RunX was recovered in Protea Glen, abandoned along the street. Preliminary investigations revealed that it was reported stolen in Mogwase, Rustenburg.

On April 17, the police followed intelligence information at Booysens regarding a s suspect being in possession of a suspicious vehicle in Turfontein.

Upon arrival at the mentioned address, a 34- year- old man was found stripping the dashboard of a Hyundai i10, and preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was hijacked at Rabie Ridge.

The suspect was arrested for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.

On the same day, a man was arrested in Dobsonville for possession of a Hyundai H100 bakkie reported stolen in Booysens.

The acting district commissioner for JHB, Brigadier Egen Moodley, commended the members for their commitment and coordinated response to information received from the family.

Moodley said: ‘’We will continue to intensify operations to ensure that those involved in illegal activities are brought to book.’’

He urged community members to continue reporting criminal activities by contacting their nearest police station, the crime stop number on 08600 10111, or, alternatively, using the MySAPSApp to provide tip-offs anonymously.
