Founder of AKAO, Simangele Nxumalo, told Urban News that she has started building a relationship with Shoprite, and over the years, they have provided essentials to different communities she recognised as needing help.
‘’As you can see, the community of Chicken Farm came out in numbers. We see a high unemployment rate, meaning most people cannot afford the basics, such as food.

“I reached out to Shoprite and saw it fit that in this gloomy weather, soup and bread would make a small difference and would ensure that most households go to bed with a full stomach,’’ said Nxumalo.
A community member, who requested to remain anonymous, shared that actions such as these make things easier for them because unemployment is at an all-time high.

She said: ‘’It warms my heart that our communities are thought of, especially shops like Shoprite and organisations like AKAO, because we live in a world where even having a meal every night is becoming more difficult because of our financial situations.’’

Nxumalo shared that the organisation’s vision and mission is to make sure that a lack of basic needs in households does not drive the youth to participate in crime and substance abuse.
