Suspects busted for hijacking and stolen goods in Dobsonville

The suspects face various charges including attempted murder, car hijacking, possession of hijacked vehicle, possession of unlicensed firearm, and possession of suspected stolen property.

Two suspects were arrested after they were found with goods that were inside a courier vehicle that was hijacked in Dobsonville, Soweto, on January7.

It is alleged that the suspects, who were driving a gold VW Polo, hijacked a courier vehicle and drove off with the victims who were later dropped in Mofolo North.

Police officers from Soweto Flying Squad spotted a suspicious gold VW Polo with five occupants and stopped it.

Upon searching the car, police found two microwaves suspected to be taken from the hijacked courier vehicle.

Three suspects escaped, and two were arrested.

“Preliminary investigation led the police to two houses in Mofolo North and Dube, where two more suspects were arrested after they were found with two fridges that were reported to be taken during the hijacking.

“In one of the houses, police recovered a Kia bakkie that was hijacked in Eldorado Park in 2023.

“A total of four suspects were arrested, and the search is underway for more suspects,” said SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo.

The arrested suspects are facing charges that include attempted murder, car hijacking, possession of hijacked vehicle, possession of unlicensed firearm, and possession of suspected stolen property.
