Police bust suspect with unlicensed firearm in Eldos

Suspect caught with illegal firearm after attempting to flee from police.

A successful operation by Eldorado Park Crime Prevention and Gauteng Traffic Wardens led to the arrest of a 32-year-old suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on January 24.

The incident occurred along Boekenhout Street, Eldorado Park, at approximately 19:40.

According to Sergeant Fezeka Khobo Eldorado Park SAPS media liaison officer, the police were performing their routine crime prevention duties when they noticed a group of eight men walking on the street.

The unregistered firearm and ammunition, including five live rounds, were seized during the arrest in Eldorado Park.

“Upon becoming suspicious, the police approached the group, and the men fled. The police caught one suspect, who had an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in his possession.

“The suspect, who had no valid explanation for having the firearm, was arrested and detained at Eldorado Park SAPS for further investigation,” said Khobo.

The 32-year-old suspect will appear in court soon.
