Rea Vaya bus services suspended after deadly shooting attacks Mapetla and Protea Glen
Rea Vaya passengers left stranded as bus services are halt following double murder.
Rea Vaya bus services have been temporarily suspended until further notice due to recent shooting attacks on bus drivers in separate incidents at Mapetla and Protea Glen.
Tragedy struck on the night of February 3, when two bus drivers were shot and killed in two separate incidents.
The police are investigating cases of murder.

According to Gauteng Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the first incident occurred when a driver stopped at a traffic light along Wildchestnut Street in Protea. Unknown suspects shot and killed the driver.
In the second incident, at Tshithuthune Street in Mapetla, an eyewitness reported hearing gunshots and taking cover.
After the shooting stopped, the eyewitness discovered that the driver had been shot and killed.

The eyewitness attempted to drive the bus but crashed into a wall. Fortunately, the passenger sustained no injuries.

The motive behind the shootings remains unknown, and the police are following up on all leads as the investigation continues.
The violence has prompted Rea Vaya to halt operations for safety reasons. Management has advised passengers to use alternative public transport until the situation is resolved.
