JMPD arrests 191 drunk drivers in week-long citywide crackdown
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department arrested 191 motorists for driving under the influence between May 26 and June 1. The operation reinforces JMPD’s zero-tolerance approach to drunk driving and road safety.
The JMPD held intensive operations focused on driving under the influence of alcohol across the city between May 26 and June 1.
Officers nabbed 191 people for driving under the influence of alcohol through roadblocks, complaint responses and increased routine patrols.
Driving under the influence poses significant risks, including severe physical harm and substantial legal consequences. The JMPD maintains a zero-tolerance stance on intoxicated driving.

JMPD chief of police Commissioner Patrick Jaca stated, “The number of arrests made during this period sends a clear message: The JMPD will not compromise on road safety.
“Driving under the influence is a reckless and irresponsible act that can have tragic consequences. Our officers are dedicated to removing drunk drivers from our roads and holding them accountable for their actions.”
