WATCH: Community protests after the death and injuries of e-hailing drivers

One driver was shot and killed and two others were rushed to hospital after their car was set alight.

The community of Klipspruit and neighbouring areas gathered in large numbers following the attack on e-hailing drivers, which left one dead and two others injured.

The protest has brought traffic to a standstill on Chris Hani Drive in Klipspruit, with residents blocking roads and burning rubble.

Emotional Bolt driver, Philani Zondi, described the incident as deeply unfair and heartbreaking.

“This is greatly affecting business because for days there will be no work.

“We are scared for our lives, but we still need to make ends meet. We hope management comes up with a viable plan that works,” said Zondi.

Local resident Nthabiseng Taioe from Pimville said the incident has left the community shaken.

Residents of Klipspruit, Pimville and neighbouring areas came out in numbers to call for a stop to the violence against e-hailing drivers.

“It feels like we are reliving what happened last year. E-hailing services are convenient for us, and that is why we use them.

“We hope management takes action to make sure we feel safe and at ease when using the services,” she said.
