Two women accused of assaulting police officers in Freedom Park
A mother and daughter were arrested in Freedom Park for allegedly assaulting police officers and interfering with their duties.
Two female suspects, a mother and daughter aged 52 and 28, have been arrested by the Eldorado Park SAPS Vispol Unit in connection with the alleged assault of police officers and obstruction of their duties.
Sergeant Fezeka Khobo, the media relations officer at the Eldorado Park SAPS, said the two women were arrested following an incident in which they allegedly obstructed police officers and assaulted them while they were performing their duties in Neptune Street, Freedom Park.
“The two females were reported to have assaulted the police officers with open hands and bitten one of the police officers in the chest,” said Khobo.

She added that the officer sustained an injury and had to be taken for treatment.
According to Khobo, the incident enabled a male suspect to escape from the scene.
“The suspects were later arrested at their residence after police followed up on the case,” she said.
The two women are expected to appear in the Kliptown Magistrate’s Court soon.
Eldorado Park SAPS station commander Brigadier Mkhacani Maluleke warned that assaulting or obstructing police officers in the execution of their duties was a serious offence and that those responsible would face legal action.
He stated that gangsterism would not be tolerated in the policing area and urged parents to stop shielding their children from the law when they commit crimes.
