Double murder accused faces full might of the law

According National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane, the witness said she woke up and saw the suspect coming out of a room which was in flames.

A suspect who has been on the run since August 2022 after allegedly burning his girlfriend, Sandra Mabaso, and her six-year-old son appeared before the Protea Magistrate Court on April 19.

The 45-year-old suspect, Lerato Sefekedi is facing two counts of murder and arson.

The case was remanded to May 06 for a formal bail application.

Sefekedi was arrested in Tembisa on Friday, April 12 after fleeing the scene of the alleged crime following an argument that ensued between him and Mabaso on August, 26, 2022 at Protea Glen.

According National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane, the witness said she woke up and saw the suspect coming out of a room which was in flames.

“She further saw the accused stabbing Mabaso and pushing her into the burning room. The accused then locked the room and threw the key away,” said Mjonondwane.

Mabaso died on the scene and her son died at hospital.
