Gauteng Premier and Joburg mayor launch service delivery programme
This is aimed at fixing the streetlights, painting roads, fixing potholes, and cleaning the streets of Soweto.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi along with Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero launched the accelerated service delivery programme on September 6 at Moletsane Sport Complex.
The programme focused on fixing the streetlights, painting roads, fixing potholes, and cleaning the streets of Soweto.
Lusufi said their visit is set to change how the government has been operating.

“What we are doing, we are bringing all departments of government, we are going street by street to fix some of the problems that the community is facing.
“This is an attitude of bringing all agencies, and government departments from nationally, provincially and locally to go to communities and solve service delivery challenges,” he said.
Lesufi stated that the programme is something that will take place every Friday in every ward to ensure that they attend to all the problems faced by the residents of Soweto.
The premier also discussed the subject of electricity and the upcoming plans to restrict low-power sustainability.
“We want to fix damaged transformers, and I’m happy that the municipality not so long ago opened the Eldorado Park power station. This will help eliminate things like load reduction.
“So part of our presence today is to go to every transformer to analyse it and determine if the power that is there can be transferred to every house without any problems and that those who are illegally connected can be reprimanded,’’ said Lesufi.

During the media briefing, Morero urged Johannesburg residents to fight against vandalism because currently, the city is seeing a high rate of infrastructure vandalism.
“We are pleading to the residents to help us in fighting against vandalism. We have a huge problem in regards to traffic lights.
“They are being stolen because the criminals want the sim cards, so we are also pleading to the criminals to also stop destroying the infrastructure because what they are damaging is meant to serve our communities,’’ said Morero.
