Beloved kwaito star: Mapaputsi laid to rest

Representing Mapaputsi’s children, their mother, Nitty Nhlapho, said this past week had been tough for all of the children.

Family, friends and fellow kwaito artists said their final goodbyes to legendary kwaito star Sandile Mapaputsi Ngwenya at his funeral service held at the Dlamini Multipurpose Centre on September 14.

The 47-year-old passed away on September 5 after battling an illness.

At the funeral, Mapaputsi was described as loving and funny.

Mapaputsi died after a short illness on September 5, at the age of 47.

Representing Mapaputsi’s children, their mother, Nitty Nhlapho, said this past week had been tough for all of the children.

She pleaded with the deceased’s friends to help raise the boys and be their guide because she had no experience in raising boys.

Industry friend Israel Matseke Zulu said, “Being called to speak is an honour. This man lying here was a jokester and loved laughing.” He shared how he plays the star’s music every Friday.

Ayola Dieketseng Ngwenya, the wife of the artist, said, “My husband was the father of the nation.

Mourners came in numbers to honour the kwaito legend.

“His legacy carries on. I will say he has not passed away but has rested. He will always be my one love.”

Sandile Mthetwa, a friend of Ngwenya, shared how Ngwenya groomed him to be what he is today.

“We, as artists, should support each other. All I can say is as Mapaputsi’s friends, can we not forget he has left his family behind,” said Mthetwa.
