Local author pleads for book donations

Dobsonville resident Neo Hassen is pleading with the public to assist her in gathering books for her new reading hub initiative.
Hassen told Soweto Urban News that she wants to provide a dynamic reading platform for the children of the community so as to expand their literacy horizons.
“What made me want to pursue this project is that I am seeing a number of children from my community on the streets while having nothing to do, especially during the school holidays as well as after school.

“So through this project I believe that I will empower a lot of children and help them understand the importance of reading,” she said.
Hassen further stated that through reading many children will have the confidence to open their minds and strive for a better and more promising future.
“Giving a child a book to read is a doorway to a future full of possibilities.
“As a humanitarian I’m passionate about empowering the youth and curbing poverty and a better way to start is by empowering a child with a change of a positive mindset which allows them to dream and become more over their current environment,” she said.

The reading hub will accommodate learners from early foundation phase as well as the youth.
“I would like the schools in the community to collaborate on this initiative so that learners will not only end up reading in the classroom but at home too.
“So I’m pleading to stakeholders out there and councillors of Dobsonville to help me make this important initiative possible.”
Any form of books can be donated. Anyone who would like to help Hassen empower the children of Dobsonville community can communicate with her on Instagram (@neohassen).
