Local foundation fights poverty among the needy residents

The families receiving the food parcels struggle to make ends meet, and many rely on social grants to survive.

The Tshepo Mokole Foundation recently donated groceries to various families around Soweto.

Tshepo Mokole, the organisation’s founder, said the families that received the food parcels were identified as struggling to make ends meet and most relied on social grants to survive.

“With this initiative, we aimed to make a difference and positively impact our community.

“We wanted to help the poor and vulnerable members of society and ensure we combat starvation as a team,” Mokole said.

Mokole added that according to his research, many Soweto are impoverished and unable to put food on the table – all because of the high unemployment rate – so, as an organisation, they try to limit hunger.

‘’Our organisation works to ensure the elderly and young children have access to nutritious food and sleep with a full stomach because we know hunger can result in a devastating range of health problems,’’ said Mokole.

He said they need help with transportation because they have trouble delivering the groceries to the beneficiaries.

“We would appreciate it if someone could assist us with transportation when we deliver food because we are struggling to deliver food parcels to our beneficiaries. Anyone who can volunteer to help us so that we can help those in need can call us on 076 440 1266,’’ said Mokole
