Minibus catches fire and explodes in Moletsane

The sole occupant of the vehicle, the driver sustained no injuries.

A Toyota minibus caught fire and exploded in a railway bridge at Koma Road, Moletsane, on January 22.

In the information received from the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Spokesperson, Xolani Fihla, the JMPD have confirmed that a single vehicle accident occurred in Moletsane on Wednesday at approximately 22h00.

“A Toyota minibus taxi veered off Koma Road and landed on the railway truck, the scene was attended by the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services and the South African Police Services (SAPS),”said Fihla.

Fihla further stated that the sole occupant of the vehicle, the driver sustained no injuries.

“The vehicle caught fire and was subsequently extinguished by EMS firefighters.

“The vehicle was then moved to the side of the railway tracks to prevent further disruption to rail services,” further explained Fihla.
